IRI Workshop - Let's Push Things Forward: Addiction. Mental Health. Recovery. Music Industry.

A ONE-DAY WORKSHOP

Addressing some key issues facing artists suffering from addiction and related mental health issues:

Highlighting  real life practical skills for working with the practicing addict.

Looking at ways to supporting those in recovery.

Exploring the unique recovery challenges musicians face - in order to best support the client and family.

WHO IS THIS FOR? 

Anyone from the music industry who wants to know more about how to support their artists and themselves.

Anyone from the music industry with an interest in working in the specialist support services i.e. sober companion/recovery coach.

Companies who may wish to explore appointing a lead to cover this crucial area.

The workshop will highlight real life practical skills for working with the practicing addict and supporting those in recovery, and will explore the unique recovery challenges artists and others in the music industry face. It will explore definitions of addiction, signs & symptoms, high risk factors, asking for help, ethics, identifying resources on and off the road, looking at the differing roles of professional support and peer support, and understanding personal and professional boundaries.

Harold Owens 

HAROLD OWENS has specialized in the treatment of addiction for the entertainment, legal and medical communities for the past 28 years.

From 1993 to 1999 he was the Program Director of the Exodus Treatment Center located in Marina Del Rey, CA and has served as a consultant for the State of California’s Impaired Physicians Program, implementing substance abuse treatment strategies for physicians who were either mandated to enter a program or volunteered to undergo treatment.

In 1999, Harold was hired by the MusiCares Foundation, the charity arm of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (GRAMMY Organization) as the Senior Director of the MusiCares/MAP Fund where he is responsible for the implementation of all aspects of its addiction recovery program, including treatment services, case management and provider contracts. Mr. Owens is also a frequent moderator and panelist at a number of national music industry conferences that address the problems of addiction in the music and entertainment industries. 

Nanette Zumwalt

NANETTE ZUMWALT ICADC II, ICCJP, CIP, CAI, is the President/CEO of Hired Power and has worked in the mental health and addiction recovery eld for almost three decades. Under Mrs. Zumwalt’s care and leadership Hired Power has taken the pioneering role in treating addiction in adolescents, young adults and adults during the high risk and very important transition periods of long term recovery. Hired Power has established and provides professional services, with a gender speci c focus, to clients and families.

Mrs. Zumwalt is a strong advocate for families struggling with addiction. Her personal passion for recovery stems from addiction within her own family, she has participated in interventions for several of her own loved ones. Her professional achievements include management positions in national therapeutic schools, recovery programs and psychiatric hospitals. She speaks nationally to professionals; she has been noted in newspapers and featured in several magazine articles as an industry expert. Nanette has received several community service awards including an award in 2007 from Assemblyman Jim Morrisey.

Mrs. Zumwalt is a Nationally Certi ed Intervention Professional (CIP), an International Certi ed Alcohol & Drug Counsellor level II (CADC II, ICADC), an International Certi ed Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP, ICCJP) and a Certi ed Arise Interventionist (CAI). She is an active board member of The National Association of Addiction Treatment providers (NAATP), Founding and active Board Member of the Women’s CEO Global Alliance, past board member and current participating Member of the Association of Intervention Specialists.
